Two Canada geese crossing a city crosswalk with a downtown skyline behind — Ganderworks

Product studio · Western Cascadia

A product studio that moves fast and scales what matters.

Ganderworks pairs Fortune-500 engineering rigor with startup speed. We design, build, and launch real software — to the craft and scale each product demands.

What we build

Senior hands on every line

A small studio that takes on a few projects at a time — from architecture to launch.

01

Backend & architecture

Distributed systems, APIs, and data models built to scale — the depth of Fortune-500 engineering, without the Fortune-500 weight.

02

Full-stack product

Blank repo to launched app: web front-ends, services, infrastructure, the whole stack shipped by the people who designed it.

03

Mobile — Expo / React Native

Cross-platform iOS and Android apps. Two of ours are running live in your browser further down this page.

04

0→1 & rapid MVPs

Validate fast. We build the smallest thing that proves the idea, then iterate hard — until we're ready for launch.

Showcase

Some projects we've been working on.

Some are live to try, others are just here to show.

Lemonil

A crowdsourced app for finding amazing fruits and produce — find what is delicious and in season around your neighborhood. Our flagship and our first foray into the app marketplace.

Cardamom

Bulk bottle deposit has a problem: who's gonna count all that? 'Robots!', said Ganderworks, and we got to work. The slides below are of a hypothetical floor solution with stand-in feature recognition, followed by an intermediary model's output. The real work is a computer vision based solution trained on a custom dataset aimed at exceeding the highly painstaking and highly labor intensive human accuracy threshold. The project and results are being used by Matt to defend his master's thesis this year.

Highlighter

You never know some things until life throws you a curve, and Machine Learning Research taught us that cheap, legal, empty drink containers are really hard to find. Instead of joining the neighborhood raccoons, we opted to acquire a sane number of containers and make synthetic images. Highlighter would take the container images we had and remove the background from the container, then draw a good bounding box. We could then tile, tilt, perspective shift, and do lighting changes, to give our model more to train on.

How we work

Depth without the weight

Senior, not heavy.

Zach spent a career architecting backends for Fortune-500 companies, then deliberately shed the enterprise weight to build lean. You get that depth — without the process tax that usually comes with it.

We've been in the business a while.

Matt and Zach have lived in the bridge between technical and business goals — and Matt has even been the business owner looking for a tech solution during his first venture. They both know how to take your business idea and support it with the technology it needs to flourish.

Rapid prototyping.

Ganderworks believes in rapid prototyping. If you want to build something right, conventional wisdom tells you to build it right every step of the way. Unfortunately, this is terrible advice when the first stage of building is “figure out what you're building.” Instead we learned to build it fast, find out what it should be, then build it right, even if it means starting over or building important systems deep in the development cycle. We would love to hear about your project and if our approach could benefit you.

Our team

Zach Fox

Zach Fox

Co-Founder · Engineering

In software since 2010, focused on distributed systems and backend architecture. Spent years building for Fortune-500 companies before turning that depth toward fast, lean product work. BS in Computer Science.

Matt

Matt

Co-Founder · Product

Former Boeing mechanical engineer who built and profitably sold a brick-and-mortar business during the pandemic, then pivoted into software — now pursuing a master's in Computer Science. Hardware-grade rigor, real operator experience.
